Even in what they wear, the Peas borrow: samurai, Native American, old-school street, and skater influences. And it works out as something completely original, because they know how to put it together. Which is one reason they are mixing outside the studio as well.

ELITE HIP-HOP ARTISTS CARE ENOUGH TO STEAL THE VERY BEST. The Black Eyed Peas build new sound from a premium blend of live instruments, lyrical hooks, and borrowed beats. (Their new album, Monkey Business, drops this spring.) Even in what they wear, the Peas borrow: samurai, Native American, old-school street, and skater influences. And it works out as something completely original (on the ears and eyes), because they know how to put it together. Which is one reason they're mixing outside the studio as well. Will.i.am, 29, a former fashion-design student, recently introduced his own clothing line, I Am Clothing. Apl.de.ap ("Apple"), 30, loves Armani and Hugo Boss jackets. And Taboo, 29, collects Jordan sneakers and buys his trademark bandannas in bulk from the HQ in the Montebello Town Center mall in Los Angeles. Fergie, 29, wins our vote for hottest woman ever to utter the phrase "wife beater," as in, "I'm pretty casual-I love to wear a pair of really good-fitting jeans and a wife beater," she says. The short shorts work pretty well, too, Fergie.
